Sponsorship

Relay race finishThe nonprofit Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust is looking for partners to help build and enhance the scenic, historic, recreation corridor along Interstate 90 from central Washington to Seattle. You can help by sponsoring outreach efforts or a specific volunteer event in the Greenway. Partners and sponsors are recognized in a variety of ways:

  • In promotion before and during events
  • In the Greenway newsletter, mailed to over 9000 households and companies
  • In person, at the annual Greenway achievements dinner each December, attended by major donors, elected officials and regional civic leaders

Below are suggestions for partnership opportunities. If you have specific ideas about another way you would like to help protect the Mountains to Sound Greenway, please don't hesitate to contact the Greenway Trust.

Greenway Days

Greenway Days, an annual weekend festival each June, brings hundreds of local community events and attractions together in one celebration in all nine towns in the Greenway. Events include the Mountains to Sound Relay Race, Scavenger Hunts and many more.

We are seeking sponsorships for a publicity campaign each year that will help make the protected landscape that is the Mountains to Sound Greenway a "household word" and attract people to hundreds of community events on one weekend each June.

Sammamish Stewardship Saturday

Each fall, the Greenway Trust designates a specific Saturday as major volunteer events to restore native vegetation and improve water quality at Lake Sammamish in Issaquah. The Greenway Trust, Save Lake Sammamish and the City of Issaquah bring hundreds of volunteers to remove invasive plants, plant native shrubs and trees, and restore riparian habitat along Issaquah Creek and Tibbetts Creek, which are major salmon streams draining into Lake Sammamish. The fall event kicks off the tree planting season for the Greenway Trust volunteer program.

  • Co-sponsorship of $1000 per event will cover some event expenses.
  • Sponsorship of $2500 for the spring event will cover direct expenses for the event, including tools, field materials, transportation, food and drink to support volunteers.
  • Sponsorship of $5000 for the fall event will cover all expenses to run the event, including planning, volunteer recruitment and crew leaders to train and lead volunteers. It will also cover native plants, grown in the Greenway tree nursery, to restore and re-vegetate the site.

Sponsoring organization(s) will be promoted on the Greenway Trust web site, in local news media, in the Greenway Trust newsletter that goes to 7000 people and the email newsletter that goes to 1000. Banners will be displayed at each event.

Annual Celebration Dinner each December

Each December the Greenway Trust holds a dinner and celebration at the Museum of History and Industry that showcases all the accomplishments in the Mountains to Sound Greenway throughout the year. The main attraction of this event is a parade of local leaders, citizens and young volunteers who go up to a 20-foot map and unveil a new land acquisition, or post a symbol to mark a new trail or new interpretive sign or new project. A simultaneous slide show shows a photo or map of the new public lands, or a picture of the accomplishment. Past Masters of Ceremonies include the King County Executive, the Commissioner of Public Lands and two Secretaries of Transportation.

Sponsorships at any level are available. Ten sponsoring organizations or individuals at a $2500 level will be listed prominently in the invitation, event program, on large signs at the event, and on slides during the slide show. Sponsors at any level, including in-kind donations, will receive credit as well.

Mountain Works

For 6 weeks each summer, dozens of young people ages 13-18 venture into the Cascades for 6 days of trail maintenance, camping, environmental education and fun. Volunteers improve recreation sites and protect sensitive wildlife and salmon habitat while having fun and learning about trail construction and environmental restoration. The program is free to volunteer participants, and is promoted through youth organizations and the Greenway Trust web site, newsletters and email newsletter.

  • Sponsorship of $150 covers one person for one week. Costs include event leaders, transportation, food and drink, camping equipment and environmental education materials. (True cost is $500 per person per week. Each $150 sponsorship covers camp food, camp gear, educational materials and transportation. Grant funding covers the remaining $350 of this, which includes program staff, heavy equipment and field materials.)
  • Sponsorship of $1500 covers one team of 10 young volunteers for one week.
  • Sponsorship of $15,000 covers all 10 teams of young volunteers for one week each.

Sponsoring organizations will be promoted on the Greenway Trust web site, in local news media, in the Greenway Trust newsletter that goes to 7000 people and the email newsletter that goes to 1000 people.

Maintenance of a specific site in the Mountains to Sound Greenway

As the public flocks to the parks and trails in the Greenway, these natural facilities must absorb more human impacts. Good maintenance prevents environmental damage and demonstrates the ethic of community care to all who use the facilities. Adopt-a-site or adopt-a-trail opportunities are available for long-term care of a specific site.
