National Trails Day -- Join us on the Trail!
Celebrated on the first Saturday of June, National Trails Day (NTD)
evolved from the findings of a report issued by President Reagan's
Commission on American Outdoors. Completed in 1987, the report
recommended that all Americans should be able to walk out their front
doors and within 15 minutes be on trails that wind them through their
cities or towns through parks and forests and back, without having to
retrace their steps. This recommendation was the driving force behind several public and private agencies working with the American Hiking
Society to launch NTD in 1993.
Every year since then, more than a million hikers, bikers, equestrians and others join to take part in more than 3,000 events across the county. This year on NTD, the Greenway is teaming up with the Issaquah, Redmond, and Southcenter REI stores, Microsoft, Perkins Coie LLP, and the Northwest Interpretive Association. We thank these groups for their dedication to improve the quality of the trails in our area!
